Wiregrass Ranch Wins Overtime Thriller Against Land O’ Lakes, Takes Control of District Race
By Suncoast Preps||3 min read
Wiregrass Ranch entered Friday night with a 2-4 record. Land O’ Lakes came in playing some of its best football of the season.

But with both teams unbeaten in district play and a championship potentially on the line, the overall records didn’t mean much.
The two Pasco County programs battled into overtime before Wiregrass Ranch came away with a 16-13 win, putting the Bulls in control of the Class 5A, Region 2, District 7 race.
For Land O’ Lakes, Friday was an opportunity to build on an impressive stretch that included wins over Zephyrhills and Mitchell. The Gators had been particularly strong defensively, allowing just 12.8 points per game entering Week 8.
They also had one of Pasco County’s leading rushers in Elisha Melendez, who entered the week fourth in the county with 607 yards and six touchdowns.
Wiregrass Ranch had taken a different route into the matchup.
The Bulls entered the week 2-4 after facing a difficult schedule, with several of those losses coming in competitive games. The overall record wasn’t where they wanted it, but they had taken care of business in district play.
And despite the losses, the offense had continued to produce.
Quarterback Ryan Browning entered Week 8 second in Pasco County in passing yards, with two of the county’s leading receivers at his disposal.
Jonah Gonzalez led Pasco County with 548 receiving yards, while teammate Jarvis Warren ranked seventh with 273.
That passing attack presented a challenge for a Land O’ Lakes defense that had been one of the better units in the county.
Friday turned into the kind of game many expected between two teams with a district championship at stake.
Land O’ Lakes made things difficult for Browning and the Bulls offense, while Wiregrass Ranch did enough defensively to keep the Gators from taking control.
Neither team could put the other away in regulation.
The game eventually went to overtime, where junior running back Isaiah Orr scored the winning touchdown to give Wiregrass Ranch a 16-13 victory.
There was an interesting connection to the game-winning score.
Orr played at Land O’ Lakes as a sophomore in 2025, rushing for 379 yards and a touchdown on 93 carries. He transferred to Gaither during the offseason before eventually landing at Wiregrass Ranch ahead of his junior season.
Against his former team, Orr finished with 54 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.
He’s been an important part of the Bulls offense this fall, rushing for 429 yards and seven touchdowns on 57 carries through six games.
The touchdown was a big moment for Orr, but the result meant even more for Wiregrass Ranch.
The Bulls entered Friday with a losing overall record and left with their biggest district win of the season.
Land O’ Lakes had every reason to feel good about its chances coming in. The Gators had already beaten Zephyrhills and Mitchell, and their defense had given opponents problems throughout the season.
That unit delivered another strong performance Friday, holding a Wiregrass Ranch offense with some of the county’s top statistical performers to 16 points, including overtime.
But the Gators couldn’t finish it.
With the win, Wiregrass Ranch improves to 3-0 in district play, leaving Wharton and Cypress Creek as the final two district opponents on its schedule.
The Bulls will be favored in both matchups and now have an opportunity to finish 5-0 in district play and claim the championship outright.
For Land O’ Lakes, the loss makes that path much more difficult. The Gators will need help in the district race after dropping the head-to-head matchup with Wiregrass Ranch.
It’s a tough result for a team that had been playing well and had a chance to take control of the standings Friday night.
Wiregrass Ranch, meanwhile, has managed to put itself in position for a district title despite a difficult first half of the season.
The Bulls still have two district games to take care of, but Friday’s overtime win over Land O’ Lakes may end up being the one that decides the championship.
