Gaither Loads Up for a Run in 2026
By Suncoast Preps||3 min read
There has been plenty of attention surrounding Gaither entering the 2026 season, but this year feels different.

The Cowboys return several important pieces from a team that reached the regional semifinals last season, while a number of new additions have only strengthened the belief surrounding the program.
Gaither’s run ended against Lakeland in the regional semifinals, and while it was still a successful season, the Cowboys enter 2026 feeling there is more left to accomplish.
Now entering his 10th season at the helm, head coach Kirk Karsen may have one of his most talented teams yet. The expectations inside the building reflect that. Gaither is not only looking to win its district and establish itself as the top team in Hillsborough County—the Cowboys enter the year with state championship aspirations.
The biggest addition came at quarterback, where Daniel Terry transferred into the program after throwing for more than 2,500 yards and 23 touchdowns last season. Terry gives Gaither an experienced option at the position and steps into an offense with several playmakers around him.
At wide receiver, Eli Evans and Hamilton Green return as two of the top names in the offense. New addition Kaivon Williams could also provide a spark. The rising sophomore gives Terry another young option in a passing game that should have no shortage of opportunities to make plays.
Gaither also returns experience along the offensive line, a group that could play a major role in how quickly the offense comes together. With Terry stepping in at quarterback and several playmakers around him, the Cowboys will need that unit to provide stability up front.
Defensively, senior defensive back Tamarkus Young brings experience to the secondary, while sophomore linebacker Zyren Scott is expected to take on a larger role after emerging as one of the program’s top young defenders.
One of the more interesting questions entering the season will be how Gaither uses incoming freshman Blaze Ingram.
Ingram has already become one of the area’s most recognizable young prospects and recently picked up an offer from Ole Miss before playing his first varsity season. His athleticism gives the Cowboys options, but with several new faces joining the roster, how quickly Gaither settles on the right roles for each of them will be worth watching.
The Cowboys will compete in Class 5A, Region 2, District 8, where they appear to be the favorite entering the season. That expectation will follow Gaither from the opening week, but the goals surrounding the program stretch well beyond the district race.
The roster looks the part. There is experience at quarterback, talent on the perimeter, veteran leadership in the secondary and several young players capable of making an impact.
Now the Cowboys have to bring it all together.
For Karsen, Year 10 could be his best one yet.
This year feels different.
