Alonso Is Rolling Through the First Three Weeks

Alonso has been one of the better teams in Hillsborough County through the first three weeks of the season.
The Ravens are 3-0 after a 53-7 win over Riverview on Friday, and the way they have gotten there is starting to matter as much as the record.
They opened with a 45-6 win over Middleton, went on the road and beat Land O’ Lakes 24-7, then came back home and handled Riverview.
That is 122 points scored and 20 allowed.
The offense has taken another step each week, and junior quarterback Michael Pyne has been right in the middle of it.
Pyne, a Class of 2028 Penn commit, was already inside the top 10 in Hillsborough County in passing through two weeks. Then he went out Friday and completed 10 of 12 passes for 318 yards and five touchdowns.
He has also built a strong connection with fellow junior Alex Drake.
Drake had a huge night Friday, finishing with 203 receiving yards and three touchdowns against Riverview. He has quickly become one of Pyne’s most trusted targets, and that connection is giving Alonso a passing game that looks more dangerous each week.
Head coach Hayden Cantrell and his staff have also gotten a lot out of the other side of the ball.
The Ravens have allowed six points to Middleton, seven to Land O’ Lakes and seven to Riverview. They have not had to play from behind, and that has made life a lot easier on an offense that is starting to find its rhythm.
The Land O’ Lakes win was probably the first result that made you look twice. Going on the road against a competitive Gators team and holding them to seven points gave Alonso a little more credibility than a typical 2-0 start.
Friday added to it.
Now the schedule gets more interesting.
Wharton comes in after the bye, followed by Palm Harbor University, Newsome, Strawberry Crest, St. Petersburg Catholic and Steinbrenner.
That stretch will give Alonso a much better idea of where it really stands.
But through three weeks, Alonso has done enough to earn a closer look.
They are 3-0, the defense has been steady, and Pyne is coming off the kind of game that can change how people view an offense.
This team is starting to look real.
