Fivay Off to a Strong Start in Year Two Under Tony Egan

The Falcons are only two games into 2026, but there is already more balance on both sides of the ball and more production showing up across the roster.

Quarterback Dante Morretti has been one of the biggest reasons why.

Through two weeks, Morretti has thrown for 421 yards, which ranks second in Pasco County. He has also developed a strong early connection with wide receivers Eurys Rodriguez and Trevohn Larry, who currently sit first and second in the county in receiving yards.

Rodriguez has 11 receptions for 225 yards and two touchdowns through two games, while Larry has five catches for 165 yards and a touchdown.

That gives Fivay one of the more productive passing attacks in the county early on, but the offense has not been completely one-dimensional.

Running back Chantz Thomas has rushed for 102 yards and also sits inside the county’s top 10, giving the Falcons another piece defenses have to account for.

The production has carried over to the defensive side as well.

Linebacker Kaiden Green has been one of the busiest defenders in Pasco County through two weeks and currently leads the county with 26 tackles. He has also added four sacks, giving Fivay a disruptive presence in the middle of the defense.

That kind of balance is what makes Fivay’s start worth watching.

The Falcons have a quarterback near the top of the county in passing, two receivers leading the county, a running back inside the top 10 in rushing and the county’s leading tackler.

For a program that went 7-3 in 2024, it is an early sign that Fivay may be working its way back toward that level.

Egan’s first year gave him a chance to get the program settled. Now in Year 2, there appears to be more firepower around him and more players starting to emerge in key spots.

Friday should provide the best test yet.

Fivay will travel to Mitchell to face a Mustangs team that is 2-0 and has not allowed a point through its first two games.

Mitchell’s defense has been dominant so far, but Fivay’s offense has been clicking early as well. The Falcons are averaging 27.5 points per game through two weeks and have several playmakers already showing up among the county leaders.

Something will have to give.

That matchup should also give a better idea of where the Falcons stand before district play begins.

Fivay competes in Class 4A, Region 2, District 8 with Zephyrhills, River Ridge, Gulf, Springstead, Pasco and Hudson.

There is still a long way to go, but the Falcons have put themselves in a good position early.

If the first two weeks are any indication, Fivay has enough on both sides of the ball to make things interesting once district play gets underway.

The Falcons may still have plenty to prove, but this looks like a team that could surprise some people as the season moves along.
